Day 117: I’m the one who pays the bills

Day 117: I’m the one who pays the bills

Friday, April 27, 2018

I withdrew my kids from some classes this week. The people who run the classes asked why. I gave a detailed explanation. They tried to explain why I’m wrong. I stifled the urge to question why they weren’t taking the feedback on board and simply took my business elsewhere.

I’m not sure how it’s done by other parents, but I’m pretty sure the thinking is the same either way.

When it comes to my kids, I don’t have time to pussyfoot around. I will not dignify whatever pretence is being sold of history or community or tradition or whatever, much less the politics of an industry.

Parents send their kids to music classes to learn how to play music. They send their kids to language classes so that they can learn how to speak, read and write in other languages. They send their kids to martial arts classes so that they can learn how to defend themselves. It’s not rocket science.

If the kid can’t do those things after three years, then the classes are not effective. That’s not rocket science either.

More classes are on the chopping block.

About today’s photo: the angle and composition of this photo reflects how I deliver the truth you don’t want to hear – I will look in your eyes and say it straight to your face.
