In a way, I guess it wouldn’t be 2017 if it didn’t refuse to go quietly: just when I thought I was done for the year in dealing with expensive dramas, the handle of my washing machine broke off. I didn’t even raise an eyebrow.
…which, I suppose, brings me to the end of this year’s ‘one self-portrait a day’ series. There were many highlights, but there were many lowlights as well. It would feel somewhat delusional to compile a list of all that I’m thankful for (which, I’ll add, I am) without maintaining a realistic perspective, so I’ll forego that exercise and instead share the thinking that has resonated with me most, which I’ll likely take into the new year:
“Do not pray for an easy life. Pray for the strength to endure a difficult one.”
Happy New Year, dear readers.
About today’s photo: I think it’s telling me to keep smiling.
