- Dream big. Then make it happen.
People who find reasons why things can’t be done will either never get it done or are just waiting for someone else to do it for them. The best creatives are like Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park: “life just finds a way.”
- Get out of your self-affirming echo-chamber and surround yourself with intelligent people who have differing views.
You’ll never be accused of having a worldly view if you keep preaching to the converted.
- Learn the distinction between adulation and critical praise.
Compliments from people who are simply trying to raise your spirits are nice, but ultimately unhelpful. Critical praise is always qualified and filled with clues on your strengths and weaknesses.
- Stop looking over your shoulder.
It’s nice to be aware of what others are doing. But if you keep comparing yourself to other people, your accomplishments will be limited to theirs’.
- Be honest.
It’s always good to recognise your achievements. But you also know where all the mistakes are. Own them. Learn from them. Improve.
