Day 293: Expect nothing in return

Day 293: Expect nothing in return

Friday, October 20, 2017

While contemplating my life’s dramas, I was reminded of the refugee I helped who survived being tied to a tree while her children were drowned before her eyes; the young man who lives in abject fear because his kidnapper and rapist walked free on a legal technicality; the woman who escaped her husband’s nightly beatings with only her 10 month-old baby and the shirt on her back.

There are so many of them, yet now their names are a blur.

I ask myself what I have to be proud of: they have earned me nothing, save maybe perspective.
