Day 165: Verbiage

Day 165: Verbiage

Thursday, June 15, 2017

“Damn” is a verb; such as “I damn you to Hell.” By extension, you could use it in a phrase such as “The evidence is damning”.

It is also an exclamation; such as “Damn, how did that happen?”

“Damned”, while being in the past tense, is also the adjective: “Don’t be such a damned fool”.

Please don’t mix these up.

Similarly, “invite” is a verb. “Invitation” is the noun. One does not “send an invite”; you can “invite someone” or “send an invitation”.
