It may seem easy to say in hindsight, but the election of Donald Trump as the next president of the United States of America isn’t really that big a shock to me. The thing I consistently observed throughout the campaign is that neither side really talked to each other. No one really tried to understand why people from the opposing side threw their support in that direction.
Ask yourself this: if Donald Trump is such a racist and bigot, why did he receive such a high proportion of votes from African Americans, Asian Americans, Latino Americans, and other minorities?
I won’t accept the notion that they are simply idiots. But if you assume the best in them, it’s actually pretty clear to see why.
