Day 204: So that’s what 2,400 magazines looks like

Tuesday, 23 July 2014

Nothing reminds me more of the number of trees being killed off by the media than walking into a printer and seeing giant rolls of paper the size of jet turbines being fed into the presses.

What I’m sitting on is just a fraction of my last magazine’s print run.

After accounting for print stock and pagination, a pile 15 times this size would’ve been the print run of Hyper Magazine back in the late 1990s.

A pile 700 times this size would’ve been the print run Foxtel Magazine back in 2010.

  1. My best friend drove a transport truck for a company that had a contract with a major magazine publisher. The returns were almost as great as what went out — talking tonnes of paper. This was a few years ago. It’s a wonder they’re still printed at all. Only a matter of time until everything is electronic I’m afraid.
