A behind-the-scenes tour of ABC current affairs chat show, Q&A, ended with a photo in host Tony Jones’ seat. It was amusing to sit in the live audience during the show and to mingle with the talent in the Green Room, but I have to admit I enjoyed my time in the control room much more.
The control room is a crucible of screens, dials, computers, producers, directors, editors and journalists rifling feedback, quips, jokes and the latest rumour and innuendo at each other without any fear or favour whatsoever of advertisers or anyone else who might have an easily bruised ego. They didn’t have a problem with my presence because they knew, at some level, that I’m an old hand at this game.
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss this.
