Friday, May 31: 2013: Here in an instant, gone in a flash
Something here I’m not quite getting,
Though I try I keep forgetting;
Like a memory long since passed.
The process of creative reinvention sounds is a journey of discovery that’s at once fascinating, obsessive and challenging, much like this song from one of my favourite films of all time.
It reminds me of the story of Tantalus, who was exiled to Tartarus by the gods of Ancient Greece. As punishment for his crimes against humanity, he had to stand ankle-deep in a pool of water, beneath a tree that bore low-hanging fruit. But every time he reached up for a piece of fruit to eat, they would be just beyond his reach; and every time he bent low to take a drink, the water would recede. Thus, his punishment was temptation without satisfaction, hence the word “tantalise”, as derived from his name.
Today will be considerably easier, though. It is my beloved wife’s birthday today, and I need to concentrate on making it special for her.
Happy Birthday Mrs. Camera!
