Day 108: It never stops

Thursday, April 18, 2013: It never stops

Sick as a dog, but the kids don’t really care – they still want to play. It reminds me of a 1989 film called Parenthood, starring comedy legend Steve Martin. I’ve always made it a point of watching it every few years because I get something different out of it every time.

It’s been a few years since I last saw it, but right now there’s a conversation I can’t get off my mind that Steve Martin shares with his father, played by Jason Robards, in which they’re discussing just how difficult it is being a father. The punchline of their conversation is that all the problems, all the little dramas, the demands, the screaming – it never stops, not even when you think you’ve given everything you can and you’ve earned a break.

To be honest this isn’t the worst I’ve experienced – Harry’s urinary tract infection at 2-weeks of age while both Samantha and I were suffering from a severe bout of gastro was by far the worst. Specifically, being instructed by the nurses to hold Harry’s legs open while the other collects a urine sample in a cup while we’re both struggling to keep our stomachs settled and trying not to pass out from fever.

…and just for a bit of fun, here are a few of the out-takes, because it’s clearly Indy who’s having fun here 🙂
