February 6, 2013: I may have gone overboard with the Photoshop…
…or have I? Every time I see photos that have gone through Hipstamatic or Instagram, all I see are giant vignettes, white balance that’s a little off balance, cross-processing, film grain, fish-eye effects and massive over-exposures. All that, and more, just to recreate the unique look of different film cameras from years gone by.
And while programs like Hipstamatic and Instagram can tell you the year, make, model and lens being simulated, I have no idea what I’m doing here. I’m just pushing the different sliders on my screen around to taste.
Sometimes I think people have become so accustomed to looking at hyper-vibrant, hyper-saturated images that they’ve lost any idea of what reality ought to look like. Then again, I’m reminded of the time my mother expressed her concern over whether I have any depth perception because of the number of 3D video games I play.
